My Newborn Baby Boy

December 30, 2011

Back in April, I delivered our beautiful baby boy.  It was a much easier birth than with Mattea, and the adjustment was pretty easy.  Mattea is a great big sister and did pretty good adjusting to having a baby brother.  I decided to do my own newborn photos, as we had paid for birth photos (see the photos here and here from One Tree Photography) and I had so many ideas of what photos I wanted of Wyatt.  Well, photographing your own newborn is much harder than I anticipated.  I am happy with the photos we were able to get, but had so many other ideas I wanted to try.  I did not think about how hard it would be to keep Wyatt asleep when he could smell milk on me and wanted to wake up and nurse every time I moved him :)

I am so happy with the shots we got with each one of us. These photos are what we chose to hang on our wall. Each one is a 16×16 canvas wrap, and they look great hanging in our entry way.

This little cutie sure gave me a run for my money! Hallie really did not want to sleep, although I was able to get a few sleeping shots in in the short periods of sleeping she gave me.  Since my new studio is a work in progress, Hallie and her family met me at my house and we set up a studio in my family room.  That is always an option if you do not feel like your home is a great space for photos.  Hopefully, the new studio will be ready soon though, and then there will be an even better option :)

You may remember the C Family from past blog articles.  I have been photographing this family for quite a while now, and have been friends with them even longer.  Mom and Dad really wanted to focus this session on the relationship photos with their new baby girl, Charlotte.  That is easier said than done with a three year old brother, but I am loving the sweet photo of Andrew kissing Charlotte on the head :) I also had to sneak in a few shots of just Charlotte, and was lucky to grab the photo of her smile!

Sometimes even the best laid plans do not go as expected.  I came to take pictures of little Nate with lots of ideas in my head, but this little guy would not sleep.  I tried all of my best tricks, and nothing would make him get into that deep sleep I usually need to get the poses I like to use.  Although little Nate was a challenging little guy, it was great to be forced into thinking of some different poses to use.  W e did get a few pockets of sleep, and I was also able to get some shots off while he was blinking, so it looked like he was asleep :)

I finally had the opportunity to photograph a new baby with a ton of hair!  Isn’t Ruby adorable with the thick dark hair?
