As everyone knows, I tend to do most of my sessions on location, although I do have the option of setting up my studio in my home, as well as in a client’s home. I am always on the lookout for new locations, so I thought I would run a contest to find new places to take some great photos.
I am especially looking for locations that include the following:
1. Fields with tall grass or wildflowers
2. Old broken down trucks or cars
3. Great rundown old buildings
4. Any building with a lot of texture on its walls
5. A place to be able to shoot indoors when it is raining that has some great walls, texture, etc.
Leave a comment here on the blog with your location ideas and if I use your location and like it, you will receive a $50 print credit. At the end of the contest, I will choose my favorite location, and the person who suggested the location will receive a complimentary session and a mini accordian book in addition to the $50 print credit already received for providing me with a location I like.
The contest will be open until May 15th, so get those creative juices flowing. You can comment as often as you like, so just send them in when you have an idea.

Downtown Edmonds! The Summer Market starts May 1st. There is an old fire engine and lots of flower, fruit & veggie vendors. The historical museum is close by and there are tons of old buildings along main street with alleys. There is also a cool candy shop on 5th Ave. The waterfront and ferry are just a few blocks down with great beaches, boat docks and a fishing pier. Old Milltown on 5th Avenue used to have a lot of charm, but they are remodeling some of it.
Absolutely can’t forget the Ice Caves just outside of Arlington!!! I got some gorgeous pictures up there last summer!
Januik/Novelty Hill Winery in Woodinville…great cement building with slatted wood trim that just BEGS to be photographed.

What about some of the parks in Seattle, such as Carkeek, which has neat valleys and hollows, Golden Gardens up by the old railroad tracks, or Discovery Park-fields, beaches, cliffs, old buildings, lighthouse, forests, tall stairways.
Alternatively, Silvana, with old farms, the old white church, the bridges and the river might be a nice northern location.
I work in Tacoma and find the urban, brick buildings, the train tracks with tall grass and the waterfront (all within steps) to make for lots of fun photography. Start at UW Tacoma and work your way down to the water!
It only meets part of your criteria but Bracket’s Landing/Edmonds beach is a great spot for beach photos but they also have benches, tall grasses, rocks and drift wood to work with. My favorite pictures of my son were taken here.
Also, the Mukilteo Lighthouse and park area by the ferry…
You can’t forget Pikes Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Science Center… There’s also Rozen Gardens in Mount Vernon….
